From the most renowned palaces and mansions to small town banks, limestone has been part of most timelessly elegant facades. (Visit Kingston Ontario for some true limestone inspiration, the number of beautiful stone facades has made “limestone city” world famous). Today, carved limestone facades are reserved mostly for institutional and commercial projects, at it is prohibitively expensive. Being so captured by its its elegance, Vasile decided to commission limestone pillars and entrance treatment to our friends at Romar Stone Carving, in Windsor Ontario. We worked closely with the designer until we were satisfied with the outcome, (which meant we were also way over budget– material was close to $40K) after which carving began. Upon starting installation of the limestone components, our stone mason became less confident, which was obviously cause for concern. Any clue proper installation following the engineering drawings was difficult, or too many questions asked, meant we needed to look elsewhere for installation expertise. We finally resumed work on the limestone components of our facade last week, even though installation costs are vastly different than anticipated. Our first experience with limestone was a greatly expensive one. C’est la vie. A timelessly styled home built to last is a tad more than we thought, but we’re thrilled with what it’s becoming.
